Changing in title this month, Journey into Mystery is a fitting new name for this Thor series. The change in name is appropriate for the series, as the new focus is the trickster god Loki, who, after his death during the events of the Siege event, is now reincarnated as a youthful child. This change brings a cool new dynamic to the world of Asgard. Thor plays a guardian to Loki, who is relatively new to the realm of gods. A new question also begs itself - Can the Loki, even if he is a child, be trusted? Can his fate be changed? Or is he still the same deceiver he has always been? Writer Kieron Gillen clearly knows how to write Asgardian gods; the interactions are always fun to watch, with just the right amount of comedy and drama. Young Loki is so much fun to read, whether he be comedic relief or in a serious mood. Doug Braithwaite is also no slouch when it comes to the art. The watercolor paint-esque style is more than appropriate for this kind of story. If there was one negative, it would be that the issue is billed as a Fear Itself tie-in, butthat aspect really only regards the last few pages. Regardless, I am really looking forward to where Gillen takes Young Loki and how he will affect the Fear Itself event in the Marvel Universe.
